it is 3am and i just got done with a 1/2hour test drive, i have been working prety much since 8am on the thing and it is done. so far the truck is a 6.0 with a yank3000 and a whipple pullied for a 5.3. it has the stock 5.3 exhaust, stock tuning, and the boost droped from 6.5psi max to 3.5psi with the 6.0
my driving impresions are prety much what i was hoping for, this thing rips out of the hole, if i am in first or if the truck shifts down to first the tires just fry! it is way cool and just what i was hoping for. in 4wd it snaps your neck and plants you in the seat
as soon as it is time to shift the truck falls on it's face and never realy gets going again. i wasn't expecting anything from the 6.0 until i get some exhaust and pully back up and that is what i got. i am runing 3psi lower than the 5.3 so it is posiable that i have less power than with the 5.3 at 6.5psi
so far no codes, it fired right up, no leaks, idles fine, i am very happy right now.

Nice!
I wonder which makes the biggest diference - the 6.0 or the yank? Both should really increase the lowend of your truck. I bet it feels good.
How long until you get the headers, LS1 edit, and whatever else?

i don't think i am geting anything out of the 6.0 right now with the 5.3 pully on the whipple. whipple says every pound is 20hp so i am a good 50hp short of where i should be with the right pully
ls1edit was ordered 3+weeks ago so it should be here next week i would think, who knows on the headers, just told me they are on back order. the next few projects should really help make it quicker.
more boost(6psi), an easy 30+hp
headers and exhaust 30+hp
ls1edit(shift points and rev limiter) .2?
ls1edit(torque management) .2?
ls1edit(tuning) not counting on anything here
more boost with good gas(9psi) 30+hp
it is going to be a good summer with all this to look forward to and the truck feels prety good allready.

Just the motor swap should give you more torque. Plus that newer motor has a better cam than your 99 5.3 had in it. It should feel better, especially down low. Of course it may be hard to tell since you installed the Yank at the same time.
I am impressed that you got it all in so quickly. I knew that it would run just fine on the stock PCM. Now for LS1 edit to open it up some.
Besides the headers, what do you have planned for your exhaust? Also, are you going to upgrade the airbox / intake any, to get more flow?

Gees that's a long work day. Your truck is sweet - just wait 'till everything is tuned in

i plan on using ls1edit to raise the rev limiter, raise the shift points, get rid of TM, raise speed limiter. after all that i am going to be really careful because i have no idea what i am doing as far as timing with a whipple and fuel, i may need larger injectors and i understand it is easy to adjust for them with ls1edit.
i also plan on useing ls1edit to get rid of the rear 0'2s and maybe the egr set up. when i get the headers it will be full duel exhaust, 2 1/2 at least with a cross over and some kind of realitively quiet muffler. as far as mufflers go, i have tried flowmaster and they are way too loud, the only muffler that i really liked was called a tuff truck turbo, it was a big housing turbo muffler that was quiet at idle and cruse and got prety loud at wot. any recomendations on mufflers would be apreciated but remember with no cats and i want it prety quiet.
the stock whipple air intake set up is really cheezy, sharp bends, retarded add on air filter. i have some room there and thought when i get done with everything else i might try and play with the intake, bigger throtle body, bigger MAF, some nice fat tubing and a huge cone filter partitioned in the corner like one i have seen a pic of around here. bang for the buck here isn't established here so it will be one of the last things i do. i think i would do a cam before the intake, there is some power there i bet. and the tranny is going to die before i get to the intake and that is going to slow me down some.
i want to thank everyone that answers my questions and thank whoever it is that keeps this board up, i never would have tried this with out all the info i have got here. i do drop some money on the sponcers so i guess that is a way of thanking the board owners.

I pulled off the EGR pipes and solenoid. I took a small square piece of 1/8th" Aluminum(~3x4"), put some gasket material behind it, and bolted it to the intake where the EGR tube goes in. I used the stock bolt on top, and tapped two other holes on bottom w/ self tapping screws. Also put some silicon around the exterior of the EGR hole. I was trying to make something similar to what the '02 trucks are using for an EGR block off. Then I made a block-off plate for the EGR connector on the headers. Without the EGR, getting the whipple on and off is a ton easier. I hate those EGR pipes.
I had to buy some 6.0 injectors from a newer model truck, and get them tuned it w/ LS1 edit. Of course, you have to pull the whipple off to do it, so thats when I killed off the EGR.
I have tried the no-cat approach some. On my extended cab, the interior noise was horrible. I have a good Borla muffler. W/ cats, it is a very nice sound in the cab (you can hear the radio). Same exact setup, but w/o the cats, and I need to wear headphones.
I am still running the stock intake.
You may need to send your whipple PCM back in to have them dump more fuel in via the extra injectors. I have heard of some people doing that after they make some changes.
