supercharger 5.3
#1
Ok I need a little help. I have a 5.3 in a 2000 ext cab. I am getting ready to install an old "side mount" magnacharger (i know,i know, not as good as the radix but too expensive) Is there anyone that has one of these and is there a way to switch pulleys to get more than 5lbs out of it? I would also like to install a cam in it, any recomendations? I want something to give me more power around 1500 and up, just for the street with out losing too much down low. Don't really want any drivability issues with it or have to do major tuning, as this is my daily driver. Just want something that will work awesome with the charger
I my current mods are a 180 stat ASM long tubes and an eaton locker. Any help would be appreciated

The side mount Magnacharger uses a smaller but similar Eaton supercharger.I believe that it has a keyed pulley that can be changed to increase the boost. Most Magnacharger pulleys have the size on them.To check which pulley use need, remove the nut,you should see a keyway to fit the pulley to the shaft,if not the pulley is pressed on and requires a special tool to remove.Either way Pulley Boys makes a pulley to fit.Look at the pulley selection for a Buick GN or a Pontiac GTP.Good Luck.

Be conservative with your pulley selection the Radix comes with a 3.4" pulley and from my experience a.2" change is worth 1lb of boost.I wouldn't change more than .2" intitially as you are starting with a smaller pulley and .2"could possibly yeild more than a 1lb difference and with no intercooler you might have a problem with detonation if you go smaller.Magnacharger is conservative with their tuning and you should be ok running 6 to 61/2lbs of boost.I'm not running a different cam,but instead I'm running SLP 1.85 rockerarms with good results.

Thanks a bunch, I though that whipples ran more boost out of the box than this one did, so I thought I could change pulley sizes. As far as a cam goes, I think I am going to try a comp 212/218 but didn't know if it would work right with the supercharger setup. I am lost what help would SLP 1.85 rocker arms be? thanks -

The SLP 1.85 rockerarms give about 9 percent more lift than the 1.70 stock rockerarms.I don't suggest using the SLP rockerarms in conjunction with a aftermarket cam without researching the effects with the cam manufacturer.I used the SLP rockerarms as an alternative to an aftermarket cam.Using the SLP rockers with LS6 valvesprings gives a gain of about 6 to 12hp from 2500rpm up across the powerband with no loss of lowend power. While a cam can show higher gains in power it generally does so with a loss in lowend power and driveability.Look to the list of sponsors and click on SLP Performance Parts.
