Default Summit Headers

I was lookin' through my new Summit catalog, and I saw that they make their own headers. They're dirt cheap too! Has anyone tried or heard anything about them? How well do they fit? It says that they're not 50 state legal, does anyone know why? For that price I could make the fit and have them coated!

Havent seen them, but i bet they cant be any worse than Gibson Shortys. They may give you 3-5 more rwhp.

There's a reason they're dirt cheap, because they are dirt cheap.

That's what I was affraid of. So what's so bad about Gibson's? I think you're right though, if you look at the Gibson's and Summit's, they share a striking resembelence! Hmmm...

You said 3-5rwhp , is that because they're shorty headers, so do long tubes really give you that much more?

I would expect 0 hp out of shorty headers, I have a set of edelbock ceramic coated and I improved nothing. As a friend of mine says "When it comes to headers, Go long tubes or Go home" and I belive he is right. just my $.02

jba cat4ward titanium coated provided me 12rwhp.

slp's headers should do the same.

full length headers should provide 18rwhp.

Summit's are usually repackaged Flow-Techs...at least they were for a while. They are a good cheap option.

I wonder if why shorty headers make so little power as they aren't tuned in?

I think the reason why shortys don't make power is because there's almost no collector. They don't allow the gasses to smoothly merge together, much like a stock manifold. Plus, looking at the stock manifolds, they're not that bad compared to others I've seen. You could probably just put the die grinder to them or acid port them and get as much gain as a set of shortys. JMO.

Well yes shorty headers are just tubular manifolds and newer manifolds do flow a lot better...the ones from my F150 were truly bricks.

I'll say this though, if you're building a custom turbo app, they are nice. Cut em up all day and don't care. Good to experiment with.
