STS-Not lookin too attractive to me

I think it's important to remember that everyone who is upgrading turbos, adding intercoolers, changing injectors, is capable of making far more power than the base sts kit... and still probably has less in their upgrades than most of the commercially available superchargers and certainly less than any of the front mount turbo kits.
it's also significant to point out that the STS kit has the tremendous advantage of being easily and inexpensively upgraded. that can't be said about every forced induction kit out there.

good points guys, I wont be able to afford force induction till after I'm out of college anyways. Right now I'm focusing my efforts on drivability with shackles/lower control arms and as of today a hotchkis front/rear swaybar kit on its way. I think if I were to do it, I would fab the entire kit up my self...hopefully this engineering degree will teach me a think or 2 about fluid flow and more engine theory which would greatly aid in a homemade kit. What are you guys paying for these kits and the upgrades. I would think a turbo could be had for under a grand, some sort of intercooler for say 700 bucks, I have the tubing/welding capacities. I know theres lots of other things like tune, wastegates, boost controls ect ect but I have always wanted to take the challange of completing the kit by myself. I really see the potential power in a good tuned, properly sized kit.

In this situation, mathematics won't get you closer to an ideal turbo setup than experience. there's just too many factors in play that cannot be figured into a neat equation. The STS kits are proven based on dozens of members personal experience, despite many intelligent sceptics who said it was a bad design and lost too much heat that far back (heat=energy as I'm sure you know). but you just can't argue with experience

I know that basically any somewhat correctly sized turbo will make power, its just a fact, but the big power is when everything works together, correct intake temps, boost where you want it when you want it, the right size/lenght tubing ect ect...I bet they did a ton of research before they sold this kit so I should stop doubting it.

GoldenVelvet, I wish you could have ridden in it after the last tune me and Rick did. The one where I trapped 110mph. It felt totally different than when you rode in it. I was trapping 106mph back then
There is a ton of small stuff that goes into the turbo design and alot of the people that have tried to make their own kit have found out there they end up spending quite a chunck of change to finish the project. If you havew the time and knowledge then go for it. You will no doubt save money just don't expect it to cost $2k. LOL

I, like you said up-graded the turbo for my 5.3. now with the 6.0 in my turbo is a little small but it spools so damn quick. a innercooler is needed if you plan on running above 6 psi, other wise meth seems to work just fine. oil pump is loud, but I only hear it when the key is on and the engine is off. By the way I'd rather be able to hear it, then I know it's working. I'm very happy with my STS. only thing I don't like is filter location, but even that hasn'd been one bit of a problem, and is ease to fix. The livernois front mound does look good and would be the only other one I'd think about getting.
