Exclamation Strong Electrical Odor!

On a handful of occasions the past 2 weeks, I've smelled a strong and obvious odor of something electrical burning as soon as I would step out of the truck after driving for 20+ miles. It was short lived, but I looked/smelled under the hood, in the cab, under the the cab, and couldn't detect it.

This evening it happened again, another quick inspection and no joy. Off I go Christmas shopping....Well about 30 minutes later, I come back to the truck and can smell it again! This time I was able to track it down between the cab and the truck bed.

So, the question is, what could be burning/overheating back there? It was dark, but I could see what may be the fuel pump and a wiring harness. has anyone else experienced anything similiar or have any ideas?

Thanks!

I had some Nylon straps fall between the bed and cab and landed on the muffler and piping. It melted and smelt kind of electrical wires or something burning.
Check it out.
Good luck and Merry X-mas.

That's just about the location of the ABS actuator...it's pretty common for the EBCM to short and cause the pump to run continuously. I've never heard of an electrical odor along with it though.

If your truck came pre wired for a slide in camper or 5th wheel hook up the wires are stuffed up under there from the factory. Maybe a wire has worn through and is shorting out under there. Don't know why it wouldn't burn a fuse but you never know?
