Thanks for the words of wisdom there... good call on leaving things unless they give me problems. I was actually running that through my head. Unless they have the rod-style pulley installer, in M16x2.0 - they won't be able to get that pulley back on.

I'd like to leave it, but I'm just nervous about things giving out at a much worse time.

I'm really sold on the heli-coil idea. I've talked to a number of people who are running them with perfect success. No failures anywhere. One is even blown.

I wouldn't let them mess with it eigthor. If they pull it out, and strip whats left. They will probably want to replace your crank and that =time=$$$

There are more or less three reasons... 1st would be that in the near future, I should be able to afford a second vehicle to mod to my hearts content. My truck here will be strictly a commuter and tow-vehicle... I wanted my stock powerband back for the exellent towing abilities...

2nd - I hate to complain about gas when I buy an expensive gas-loving vehicle, but the 15mpg I've been getting lately is just a little too low for my liking. When I take it easy, I'm operating the cam/engine in an area of the powerband where it's kind of "not lit up". (mainly under 1,500-1,600rpm). I don't think the stick is efficient when it's not "on"... so I put the stock stick back in to regain my old mileage back. I was seeing 21mpg "indicated" on the DIC, during some controlled commutes to work, before I started swapping cams around. Average seemed to be in the mid 17's.

3rd - This last weekend was pretty much the last nail in the coffin when it comes to seriously modding daily-drivers. If I can't easily afford a second vehicle - the truck will be replaced with a "simpler" and older truck. I don't want to let it go with any major mods in it, or mods that I can sell for some decent cash.

Well, the truck is driveable.

I painted a stripe across the bolt, washers, and pulley last night. I took it out for some sort trips, then progressively longer. I put 20 miles on it... first taking it easy, then getting on it a decent amount. I drove it another 20 miles into work this morning. Nothing has budged. I have yet to REALLY spank it though.

I've got the heli-coil kit coming today or tomorrow. I would love to have the stock bolt in there torqued down to spec so I can finally sleep at night, but I'm really quite hesitant on taking apart and destroying what I have working right now.

All of those make sense to me!

With the pulley seated,I cant imagine it budging even if the bolt backed itself out, which I believe that is not likely since you loaded it with lock-tight.
