Default Stock heads for increased compression

I have planned my 408 around using some WCCH ported 317 heads with a 74cc chamber to give me right around 9.0:1 compression for when I decide to go turbo on the motor. I am thinking right now that for my N/A setup I could put a cheap set of stock heads with a smaller chamber to bump up my compression, then swap to the WCCH 317's when the time comes. I figure that would get me better mileage and more power and save the expense of the ported heads for later. What are my options, 5.3, LS1, LS6, what are the chamber sizes, and which ones flow well enough in stock form to let the 408 breathe decently? I am going to be running a small cam for the motor, 216/224-551/551-115.

some 243 will raise it. chamber size is 64cc. it will raise it but you just have to be a little scared in the summer around here cosidering it gets hot and you are a little heaver. But I those will do the job.

Back the timing off a bit and run a 160* t-stat with the 34" rad he has and the efans to keep her nice and cool. Doubt he would be able to tow with that setup but he could try.

If it was me I would just the throw the heads from Richard on now since it would be alot easier now and driving a low 9:1CR wouldnt be to bad, and he could always throw some nitrous on it

Why such a small cam for a big CI motor? I would think you would be leaving a ton of power on the table and with all the money you are spending, I would think $400-500 is a small price to pay for another 30-40rwhp.

Temporary. Everyone has asked me this, I already have this cam and I don't want to buy a new cam that I will replace when the turbo goes on.

64cc heads will give me 9.6:1 compression. Sounds pretty good. When the time comes I'll spring for the WCCH heads and drop it down.
