Default stock airbox mod

hey,i was lookin at my stock airbox and i was wondering if it would do anything if i took that tube out

would it help at all or hurt any performance??thanks-Travis

You haven't given enough info. What year is it ? I modded mine but it doesn't have a tube in it.

Heck yes! You can take it out it wont hurt anything, I did it to my tahoe. I had to take it out so I could put my 4.5 inch hole in the bottom of the box. Performance wise... well it wont help really unless you do some more modifications to it.

Thanks for the help,i removed it and the intakes a little bit louder it might just be in my mind though..whats that peice suppose to do anyways??also what else could i do to the stock airbox

Cool

The tube is to dampen the intake sound. I put a 4.5" hole in the botttom of my box and cut the steel plate below it as well. Then I put a 4.5" tube down to pull the cold air. There is basically a built in heat shield under the plate. It pulls the air in right in front of the wheel well. Works great! I will take a pic and show you if you want.

I did the almost exact same thing only I used the tube that was in the side of the box and epoxied it into the hole I made on the bottom of the box! Did not know anyone else out there tried this! Don't know if it helps, but can't hurt--kinda homemade cold air kit.

thats what mine looks like, but it has the volant ram air kit coming up through the hole
