Default stock air box and UPD

with the UPD installed, would it be possible to cut the front of the stock air box to get more air? i'm thinking it would be sort of a ram air setup.

Hey Y2K you're not going to believe this. I just got the latest JCWhitney and in there is a new Ram Air kit from Volant. It is just like the one you made. It goes down under the air box and to the tow hook hole. Only difference is it uses a cone filter and costs $400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Man they stole your idea and are making a killing, if people are actually paying that much for it.

I saw the new 2002 diesel air box (looks like ours but no back end on it) and they cut the whole back end (fender side) off of it , from the factory. The factory even blocked off the holes in the fender, with a cheap shiney metal plate.. Looks like and after-thought from GM. I guess they feel the intercooler will cool all the hot air going into the turbo now..

I like Jim`s ram air set up myself.

I bought the UPD intake just to get peak flow but the ram-air works great with the stock air box top and intake tube. It's a really good and cheap mod if you don't mind cutting the air box.

Go to Checker Auto and buy the biggest K&N canster filter they have. It's about the size of a roll of papertowel. It sells for about $50.00 it will fit right on the MAS, I made a mounting bracket off the fender or you could use a rubber tie down. If you want more air flow slip on A 4" Sewer pipe elbow right over the TBody. The rubber seal will fit over the pipe and DBL.clamp the end, it's good to cut slots on the end so it clamps tight. Add about a one foot peace of 4" pipe and stretch the boot over the other end. You have to use PVC SEWER pipe, 4" PVC pipe is to big. You may have to trim off a little fan shoud. Then do the vent trick, I used a small sheet of tin and bent up my own air vent from both the fog light and tow hook holes. This flows a lot of air up to the filter. Be sure to paint the pipe some it looks good.
