Default Stock air box question

I have heard this from a few friends, but has anyone on here just cut there stock air box to get more air flow? I have been told it works just as well as a CAI if you put on a high flow filter. I looked into the Volant setup and I drove a truck with the Volant on it and I was very unimpressed with it. If anyone has pictures of the what they did I would appreciate it!

Yup. I have the UPD setup which is basically their tube, a replacement to the upper part of the stock airbox, and a filter. I then drilled holes in the bottom and front of the lower part of the airbox, including a hole in the metal pan underneath the airbox. I have about $50-$60 in it.

Don't have pics though, sorry...
