08 Vortec max cam and LT's???
#1
I searched around on here, and couldn't really find what I was looking for.
My buddy has a 08 vortec max and he wants to cam/headers it. He doesnt care about warranty nor about losing the cylinder deactivation.
I am in charge of doing the work as well as finding him the parts. I know ls cars and motors back to front, though I havent done too much truck work.
I have some questions:
1-Its my understanding that his motor is the L76 right? Is it the same as the one in the G8?
2-What company produces cams for these? Headers(long tubes pref)
3-What mods need to be done about the cylinder deactivation?
4- Should he also get a better converter at the same time? (needed?)
5- What cam specs would be optimal for a truck lifted with 35's and the stock 4.10 gears? Looking for a good running truck, nothing real radical, but something fast. I think the most he usually hauls is 2-3 dirt bikes (he races them)
6- I have a local tuner thats real good, he did my car, and has done a few tunes g8's and I know he'll need the tune asap. My car ran fine after the cam swap, will this truck run well enough to get it to the tuner? Or will we be calling AAA?
--Please feel free to add in anything else I may be missing, or links to write ups.
Thanks!

I just did alot of this on my VMAX. Here is the link that I used.

The G8 does have the same motor and the cams in the L76 with DOD and VVT are small. I used alot of the same part numbers in that link and everything went really well.

I Have a 06 ccsb v-max 4x4 with the cst 8inch lift 35's and airaid intake and flowmaster cat back for the big block 8.1 i(ts a little quieter) and no droning sound but sounds decent at cruise and sounds great when you floor it. It has factory 410's. It runs decent I am going to buy the doug thorley tri-y headers they have been around forever and are full length I dont know if they list them on their site but they have them.
