my trucks got a sticky lifter i think because it ticks and when i rev it gets faster so im pretty sure it is but how do u fix that cause its loud and sounds like crap thanks for yalls help

 

are you sure a lifters stiking?

 

my rod bearings sounded like a tick too. i thought it was bad lifter at first

 

First step is to get a mechanic's stethoscope to make sure it's a top end noise. If it is coming from the top side, it could be a lifter, a rocker, a bent pushrod... Just have to narrow it down.

If it does end up being a lifter, it's really easy to swap them out on the gen III/IV engines. You just remove the coil connections, then valve cover, loosen the rockers, pull the pushrods, then pull out the lifters and replace. Shouldn't take a novice more than an afternoon to swap out.

 

I thought that the heads had to be removed to access the lifters

 

The head does have to come off. Check out LS1howto.com. The lifter retainers are below the heads.

i was working on a 2003 chevy cavalier that had a sticky lifter. the recommended dosage of sea foam into the oil fixed it within about 3 seconds...

 

I have always heard that carbon buildup would cause a simular sound, dont know if theres any real truth to that.
