Do you think the dealer will do this under warranty on my lowered truck? If not, how much will it cost?

Thanks alot for all the info on this specific problem. I'm with 02 - will they warranty it on a lowered truck? If now how much does it cost to get the grease kit?

on a separate note - I have a pretty elaborate nitrous system installed. If I go to the dealership for this steering problem, will they pay any attension to the nitrous and void any kind of warranties just because its there (for future drivetrain related problems perhaps)? This is what I was worried about and why I probably shouldn't have installed this nitrous system - I dont want to have to uninstall it all just for some grease on my steering shaft......

Default Depends on the dealer

If you have a dealer you trust or use regularly then you can be the judge of what they will do. The lowered truck should be covered since this is for the intermediate steering shaft and is a very common problem with GM trucks and suvs. As for the nitrous system the lube kit will be covered but always remember most franchises have the ability to flag you vin # in the manufacturers database. So if you go anywhere for warranty work you would be turned down. Best bet would be to call and let them do the talking before you even show up. I was a GM parts and service manager for over six years, if it were to come in to my shop it would be warranty no questions asked for the pop, but when the nitrous caused engine problems or the lowering caused ball joint failure I am out. Good Luck. Oh and I agree its the shaft needing to be repacked.

Does anyone know if you can just seperate the shaft and force some grease in and reassemble, really dont feel like dropping off at dealer for something the can be easily fixed.

Will this cause any damage over time or is it just an annoyance? I'd like to enjoy my nitrous kit for a little while longer before I have to take it to the dealer. It sounds like something I could probably do but I've never messed with steering components before.

Since I didnt want to risk harming anything (tranny) with a 75+ shot, after thinking about it, the 50 shot isn't really worth it anyways - so I think I'll uninstall the system and keep it for maybe a future project. For now fixing my suspension and getting a good tune from either allen or westers will make my truck more enjoyable.

So yeah, I'll be able to take it in with no problems after I get all this stuff taken out. I might put it up for sale but not sure yet.
