Unhappy Starter solenoid acting up

My starter solenoid has been acting up for quite awhile now and lately I've been having to crawl under it to give a few good whacks. Well, needless to say it's getting old. Does anybody know if I can just get a solenoid somewhere or a rebuild kit for it? I'm thinking of taking it apart tonight and cleaning it to see if that helps. Has anybody done the same and seen good results?

I just looked at it more closely tonight and even if there was a rebuilt kit or a replacement 'noid, I don't want to go to the hassle of dicking around with the stupid fasteners that are on there. It's like a reverse torx fastener or something. Oh well...

Is the problem when you turn the key to start you get nothing? I Had the same thing and it was just where the wire got cooked from the heat of the headers, if I jiggle the wire a little it eventually starts. I haven't felt like changing it and it hasn't done it since december.

It was part starter and part battery. I think I killed the battery playing with the starter. The wiring is fine. It would just click and get stuck. It would sometimes make a ratcheting sound, and they sometimes the stupid thing wouldn't release once the truck started.

New starter, new battery, problem solved....I hope.

Oh yeah, nobody carries just a soloid. You have to replace the whole thing. I did learn that there are 2 different types of starters for our trucks. 99-00 have one long bolt and one short. 01-up have 2 long bolts.

What if that happens, but you know it's not the wiring. Mine will occasionally do that, or have a 1 sec hesitation before starting. But everything is 100% stock under the hood.

Got a solenoid sitting in my storage room. It came from my old '02 Yukon.
