I would just wait until you get the 80 in there to decide on if you want to change the gears or not.
With a good size converter it'll be doing most of the work on the launch. On the street the extra gear will make it feel more driveable at low speeds though.
Like FL8PONY mentioned earlier, a converter with a higher STR will feel more driveable also. High STR =
though
What's your ultimate goal for the truck also? That might help decide what gear to go with.

Scream, let me know when you decide on the rearend. My truck now has 4.10's with an eaton, but I was thinking of upgrading to a 14-bolt because I run 33 inch tires that are heavy. I have been waiting on it because of the cost, but if I could find someone who wanted exactly what i have
then I would probably go ahead with it. Whatcha think....sorry if I hijacked.

Yeah, go with a PI converter. It's a 9.5" unit, 2.5 STR (they all pretty much have that STR), antiballoon plates, billet cover, and pretty much any stall you want.
If it were my truck... I'd go around 3200-3600rpm and plan the amount of nitrous you will use now. That's really going to change how the converter will flash from the hole. Figure about 500rpms or so as a rough guess.

I've been considering this too when I eventually get an '80. I currently have a TT3000 and is isn't quite enough.
I was thinking of the Yank 3200 for the '80, but I think I'll go with the 2600 since I hope it'll stall higher with a bit more TQ and such from the eventual FI. Plus, I'm still thinking I might tow something someday.

Well if you're concerned about just lockup capacity...
Most of the PI ones have a greater lockup surface area than stock converters, something like 10 sqin more. ALSO you can get triple and quint clutches in their converters so if you're truly insane...you can lock it at the top of 2nd for more ET and MPH...
