Default stabilitrak is gonna kill me

Stabilitrak / traction control is gonna kill me or somebody who barrows my truck. I hammer it, the truck surges and than stalls (usually when I'm merging in traffic) because the wheels start spinning. I have a habit to turn it off when I start it up, but anyone barrowing my truck won't know and that could be fatal. Anyone know how to reverse the system so it's always off unless I push the button?

well, if you turn it off by the push of a button, reverse the circuit (switch power and ground)...that should essentially make it function the other way. when you put a DC motor to 0, it spins backwards and when you put it to high it will spin forwards.

I hope it's that easy, does anyone know if this will screw up any of the pcm programming? Does anyone else have this problem?

it shouldn't. The PCM will still get a signal, you are just changing what sets the traction control to high and what sets it to low.

That won't do anything. If it's like most other switched in the truck, it's a momentary switch, which means the circuit is closed as long as you push the button down. That's what switches the PCM mode, a momentary closed circuit.

There was a post a while back on how to set it so it defaults to the off position, but I forget how to do it. You might try some searches.

I followed those directions, it didn't work. I also checked my manual and there is not instructions on changing the default to off. Do you think it's changed for 03's??

You might can call the dealership and ask them how to do it. They should be able to tell you over the phone.

I have an 03 and it IS in the manual. I followed the instructions, and it worked perfectly. The only thing that is sort of annoying is that the indicator light is now ON all the time, but I got used to it.

I still turn it on when it is wet out, as I found it does a good job when surface conditions are poor, but like you I felt on dry ground the way it operates was EXTREMELY unsafe. Whenever I would pull out of a driveway or make a right hand turn onto a busy road, the rear would spin up, and it would KILL all power and buck like a Bronco leaving me dead in the water with oncoming traffic barrelling down on me.

Look in your manual again... I am SURE it is in there.
