Default Stabbed the 8.1!!!

Put a new cam in on sunday. What ficking bear. 12 hours of manual labor. But what a sweet sound that is when at idle. It is a xr 270 from comp cams. Thanks, Tierod on the Good deal for the cam. Can't really tell now still babying it.

Question is once this thing gets a tune, do think it will perform better? (stuipd?i know)

How much better?

Bascially, just wanted to embellish little. after having the 8.1 down to heads and block. putting back to together is kind of rewarding. And that nice loping idle. MMMM loping idle MMMM

Nice. How much more involved was it over a LS1? Sounds like you needed to pull the intake.

Do the 8.1's run roller lifters?

yes the intake had to come off. also they do run roller lifters. as for the sound clip, going to wait and get headers and some exhaust in the works.

Cool.

What sized cam did you go with? 270 advertised works out to be about 216-220 at .050, right?

What lift and LSA is it running?

I'm curious because I hear a lot of people with strokers going huge on cams. They say the extra cubes will eat up the cams... I don't deny that, I just don't they will to the extent that they're adding duration and lift to their cams.

duration at .006 is int: 270 and exh: 276
.050 is int: 218 and exh:224

boy...that seems like a REALLY small cam for a 496cid motor....I've run a cam bigger than that in a motor 146cid smaller and it was still VERY streetable

Biggest one comp cams makes for the 8.1. There a little of stumble at throttle tip-in. once your rolling not to bad. It not huge by far, but is a daily driver. It idle at 550rpms, when the ac kicks on it almost dies. pickup does shake ever so slightly.

Still sounds cool!!!

Hope you have all the fun that I did with that cam. Just remember it's a big block you don't have to have a big cam to make power.
