You can weld the spider gears together on any rear end to make it a spool basically. But it wont be fun to drive around on the street at all. And be ready to replace axles because your gonna end up breaking one. Id say do it if it is a trailer only truck, but odds are it isnt.

something you really dont want to do....
If you want a posi - get an Eaton or Powertrax
or check your local recycling yard and get a
used carrier section - put some new bearing on it
and stick in yours....

Just like everyone else has said, yes you can do it, but I sure wouldn't on a street truck. I welded both front and rear spider gears on my last jeep axles, but it's a trailer queen for the most part. It's a real PITA to turn on the highway, and it alerts every cop within a 1/4 mile radius to your rig from the screeching tires on EVERY turn.
Even if my truck were a trailer queen, I wouldn't run welded gears at the strip. I've seen too many break and take out the carrier and/or R & P with it. For a trailer queen, I'd buy a full spool, but not for a 10 bolt. I'd have some beef under there first.
