Speartech:
John, Thanks so much for forging ahead on this project. This is a great write up.

To review; the things that are needed are a 6L80/6L90 Tramsmission, E38 computer, Speartech harness, new drive shaft, LS2 engine that matches the computer, and programing. Of couse there is the labor. What am I missing?

Will the 6L80/6L90 Tramsmission family work the AWD transfer case of the SS Silverado?

Thanks
CD

I think you could get the E38 computer to work with a GENIII engine by swapping reluctor rings on the crank. The cam position sensor and knock sensors are in different places, but I think that's a simple harness extension right there. Other than that, I would think the sensors would still talk to the new computer. I don't see it being necessary to swap the actual engine itself to work with the 6L80E.

True. If you want to go to the effort of changing to the 58X reluctor wheel AND the 4X cam gear/sensor/timing chain cover, you have essentially converted your Gen 3 engine to a Gen 4.

What would be nice to try would be to fit a newer instrument cluster into the dash. Then you would have CAN lines into the cluster for proper gauge operation without the old PCM.

That's what you get into though; one thing leads to another and then to another......

Ideally what you want to do is put all of this into something like a '69 Chevy truck! Then you don't have any of these problems.

That's what I'm talking about. I'm wondering if that tranny will fit under my 86 c10 2wd cab/tunnel?
Nice work!

I know that the 6L80 is in the new escalades and denali's but what car/truck is the 6L90 in? Also is it stronger than the 6L80?

cool work it just sucks its so hard to make work with most of stock electronics in a gen 3, imo if you could some how get it to work easier with the gen 3's i think youd have a much bigger sales market.

Hey John, would the E67 controller run a 6L80E/6L90E? I don't know if any vehicles have this combo yet or if it even matters as long as it uses a CAN bus.

The vehicle I'm thinking of looks like it will have a E67 GenIV 5.3L/4L60E combo. That looks fine until you get to the 4L60E part.

E67 GenIV 5.3L/6L90E looks much better.

Can you explain a little bit how these new seperate engine/trans controllers communicate with each other? In the past when they were integrated into the PCM if you did a trans swap you just had to get the correct OS/engine/trans file and flash it in(simply put). Now, does the engine controller specifically send certain info to the trans controller or does the trans controller just look for certain info in the data stream on the CAN bus?
