Spark plug length with headers
#1
I recently bought speed engineering 1 3/4 headers for my 2000 4.8 ls, before I do them I want to buy plugs and wires. Am I going to need longer spark plug wires? And if so what length. And what do you guys recommend for spark plugs, NGK or ac delco?

I was under the impression that the two different lengths you find are going to be because we have two different types of coils. You're going to want them to have no slack. The best way is to just pull what you have and measure it, and then adjust from there. Yeah protectors are going to solve the problem either way.
I couldn't find anywhere to confirm this, but it's what happened with mine: I want to say when looking, if you find em for Gen III & LS1, that's a square coil, and if you find em for 4.8/5.3/6.0, those are for round coils, (even though NBS got both). (I have square, went with an 4.8/5.3/6.0 set that was about 2" too long, and replaced with an "LS1" set, that were perfect).

I used to run the Taylor spiro-pro 8mm wires on everything LS. Eventually, the terminal would pull out of the boot on the plug end so I switched to the MSD wires, pn: 32823 and I haven't had that issue since. My preference for plugs is NGK and in this application the TR5's, item #2238. They are relatively inexpensive but will need to be changed more frequently than the platinum or iridium versions, which are going to cost more.
