Is this dyno run with no cam tuning? How does the cam idle? Does it set misfire codes? I heard misfiring will cause the torque converter to act funky unless you fix it with LS1Edit. Is it a 01 or 02 cam? That is some great info.

Like I said before scoggin dickey sells a LS6 cam kit for $575. So maybe I will pick up on that. But Katech engines sells gen III rod bolts i'm sure they are just ARP fasteners, but they also have bearing caps too.

When I used the word insane I was saying that it would be insanely COOL! That is if the dyno charts and track results showed any reason to rev to 7500 rpms.

I agree with jason 99t/a that something in the drivetrain would not like reving that high, but Im no expert on the 5.3 so....

Anyway 6500-6800 rpms DOES seem completely possible. Has anyone built a 5.3 with the LS6 components (cam, valve springs, pushrods, etc.) and revved this high?

there would be no point in revving a LS6 cam past 6600-6800 with the right valvetrain other than making alot of noise and destroying parts.

Jason
A smaller engin (5.3) does not need as much cam at a given RPM. It has to with the amount of air moved. For example: my drag car has a Pontiac 455. All Pontiac motors are interchangeable (I tell ricers its a 350 as the bages on the side state). The cam in my 455 is well over 300 advertised. If I put this cam in a smaller Pontiac 326 it would not idle. How ever if the 326 was reved (HIGH) it would be able to use the cam when it starts moving the amount of air that the 455 can in the lower RPM.

Back to the point. The 5.7L starts falling of at 6600-6800 where as the smaller 5.3L can go a little higher befor fall off.

346cid X 6800rpm = 2352800 (5.7)
326cid x 7225rpm = 2355350 (5.3)
297cid x 7925rpm = 2353725 (4.8)

with 20 cid less it takes another 500 rpm to move the same amount of air as the 5.7. "there is no replacement for displacement" The honda guys tell me v-tech is the replacemnt, in truth its the rpm capability of the baby motor. all the v-tech does is give them more cam at the higher rpms. In most cases the big cam is on v-tech is too big to idle down low.

Did you guys end up getting results with the electric fans and all? Your cam gains sound almost identical to mine.

I have spun my 6.0 to 6,975rpm on the juice but only for a split second, as I quickly realized what was happening.
I have been screaming at everyone about the greatness of the Z06 camshaft, with a converter of course. I would change my cam in a second, if I wasn't building another motor with it in. Everyone wants to sound like a friggin dragster with a new camshaft. There are other cams that make more power, but are not as streetable.
