is a different length pushrod???? and that accounts for a $800 price diff

I beleive the only thing is the bore is smaller

i believe you both are wrong...the 5.3 has different piston rods resulting in a different stroke....and if i am not mistaking the crank is different

Yes, shorter stroke results in different rotating assy...it could be the same rods (with shorter crank) just different pistons, but I doubt that.

I was under the impression it was both, a different crank and shorter piston rods.

Anyone remember the 1969 Z28 302. A 4.00" bore with a shorter stroke. It really wound up fast.

Came with a 3" stroke and was 4.9L just like all the 5.0 Mustang guys' cars are!

That motor also had some powdered metal rods if my memory serves me.

just read on another thread that the 5.3 pistons are dished and 4.8's are flat......

so the differences are stroke, crank and pistons? bore is the same?
