Slip Yoke Clunk, idea...?
#1
Just wondering if it is possible to just replace the junk transfer case that is there with a nice NP205 t-case and that would eliminate all the clunks when taking off? is the possible, do the spline on the output shaft on the 4l60e match up with the number of splines on the NP205? let m eknow if any one has any insite as to wheather this will work or not??

Did you try to lube the yoke splines? The drive shaft splines get dry and shift when coming to a stop or taking off.
Remove the drive shaft and apply some wheel bearing grease to the splines on the drive shaft. This should get rid of the clunk, if it is the noise I am thinking of.
Our dealership uses a nasty lube for the drive shaft for 2-wheel drives. However, if you use it on four wheel drives it will burn the clutchs.

StupidFast, what 3600 stall do you have? Did you do anything to the 4L65E or is it stock? That sounds like one hell of a setup you got. Do you have any track times? I bet traction is a b!tch!
Edit: Sorry for bustin in your thread STUB25

I have PI 3600. The transmission uses stock parts because, I get them very very cheap. The trans guy at my dealership and I modify parts to try and make it live. I have a problem keeping 3-4 clutchs holding.
I have gone to the track but, for some reason it keeps pulling out timing. I have a solid 9 degrees of timing and I have no clue why
. The only thing I change is the tires.
It depends on the temp and road conditions. Sometimes I spin at 50 and sometimes I spin at 70.
When I get traction I soil myself.

I have lubed them 3 diffrent times now. It's not just a lube problem it's something more just like everyone's else's. the dealership lube'd it twice and I have 3 times myself. Let me know if you have any idea about the NP205(much better/stronger t-case anyway) It's now out of warrenty by about 10K. Stupidfast you have to remember what type of driving conditions I'm in up here, in fact the truck is already starting to rust on the inside of the doors at the bottom!!! Make's a man wanna kill some one to see rust on a truck this new!!! At least i know if wasn't me, I've only had the truck for est:6 mo!! Let me know if you have any other ideas. The only reason I said NP205 is because I have like 4 or 5 of them!!!

i had the clunk for a while. came across a TSB by GM. it says to replace it with a nickel plated slip yoke. i ordered it from gmpartsdirect.com, i tried to get my dealer to replace it for free but did not happen.. i was 10k past warranty too. it cost me with shipping about $150. had it install this past weekend. no more clunk. something to look into. i can give you the part # if you are interested

I have the same clunk. Its not the yoke, its play in the transfer case. There is a way to adjust it, but I am not sure. I never got mine in under warranty to get it fixed. Now I wish I would have.

I wish there is a way to adjust it. It's play in the output shaft on the t-case and unfortunitly there is now way to adjust that!! I'm glad you mentioned that 1BADHD because I'm not sure weather the nickel plated yoke is going to help that at all!! That's why I was hoping to have some input on the NP205 conversion!!!

well, tell you what. i had the TC and the slip yoke put in at the same time. the clunk is gone. so it is hard to say what cured it. i will post the part # anyway, plus i will post the TSB
