Allen is no bullshit kind of guy if he says it gained 95 hp then it gained 95hp.

You also have to understand this was an untuned engine so you say 30hp from the tune now you are down to 65hp still a stretch but is possible. Then you have to factor in how the stock motors are rated as said above they are rated through exhaust and all accessories. I guarantee you I gained more than 20hp from my cam swap in the upper rpm band it felt almost as strong as when i was spraying. When I sprayed a 35shot on my truck I could barely feel it with the 222/224 112lsa comp cam I had in my truck it threw you back in your seat at about 3500 and it would haul ***. You can gain alot more than 20hp. Maybe there was something wrong with the tuning on the engine to begin with i dont know but I believe Allen.

 

I got 15 HP across the band with my little 205/212 and no tuning, so I'm sure that 30-35 (or more) RWHP could be had with a decent sized cam. Additionally, the stock tune is pretty conservative on timing, so I would bet you could find a good 25-30 RWHP or more by programming a lean tune with some timing added.

The part I am curious about is the power curve.....70-80 RWHP from 5000-6000 RPM is of no interest to me. If you can't give me power starting around 2500 or 3000 RPM, then the cam is not daily driver material IMO, it is a race motor cam

 

they order custom grinds up there and allen tunes them up fine....he's ordering me a cam and we will dyno before and after and see what it does for this blown av...

 

I agree if it makes big power on the top then it is no daily driver, Trucks need the low end to get them going. It still is pretty impressive.

Edit: Ok didn't want to come off so harsh but I hate when people question whether I'm telling the truth or not.
Anyways, it really depends on the vehicle and how well it was tuned from the factory and who is doing the tuning. Mail order tunes are not going to get the same results as a dyno tune either. Some people can only pull about 15hp from a tune and others manage more than I got. It also depend on how you want your tune done (87, 93, or all out race tweaked).

 

PCM4less....well maybe all you received was 15HP. Should have went with a well known tuner, like, say Allen Nelson!
Believe me, Nelson's tunes give more than 15 HP. I would say 30 + HP gains.
I'm 100% sure Nicken's Brothers Racing doesn't call Allen over from San Antonio to Conroe several times a month for a measilly 15 HP.
On the cam grind, Nickens Brothers deals with comp cams all of the time.
The cams they use are Nickens Brothers specs (custom grind) with Comp cams as the maker. Of course comp does give their opinions on the custom specs as well.
The accessory drives do not take away HP like they use to. That's why it's now a waste of money to buy underdrive pulleys fot a possible 5 HP gain.
Forgot to mention that the cam makes power from 2000 rpms on up. Not sure where the cam flatens out at. I asked one of the techs at Nickens Brothers as he responded that I could drive with it everyday, pull with it, and still get about the same MPG.......if you keep your foot out of it.
Basically it has a nice power curve from the low end up to the top.
Best thing about it, you don't have to upgrade to bigger injectors. Maybe the fuel pump though.

The engine was a stock LQ9, 224cam, dynoed with all accessories.
With a tune and cam it put out 441hp. It started up great, idled at 675rpms and made great power across the board.
I'll try to post up the dyno numbers if I can.

On a side note, a completely stock 6.0L LQ4 straight from GM dynoed at 311hp/351tq, after a tune it gained 56hp/50tq.
The base tune seems about right, I believe GM rates them at 325hp.

that tr224 is something serious... i wish i had more motor so i could have a more broad rpm range... but it feels great in the peak rpms

 

I got a custom cam from cam motion, its specs are close to the TR 224, so for comparison reasons, I looked on TR's web site. They have a dyno chart of a T/A with a LS1. It picked up almost 80 H.P, and almost 50 lbft. If thats true, the possibility of gaining 95 hp with a cam swap and a good dyno tune is possible I think. I hope so at least.
