Default Silverado SS exhaust question

I am putting LTs on the SSS when I do the heads and cam. The problem that I have is no one sells a "direct fit" Y pipe for the it. I guess because its not a "Y" pipe, its just two pipes that run from the cats into the muffler. Does anyone know the diameter of this "intermediate piping? I would like to reuse the piping if I can, and just use minimal piping with some flanges to make the final connections. I could measure it if I was in the state, but I would like to order some stuff before I get home. One more question that I have is can I weld flanges onto the collectors if they are coated, or am I better off with band clamps?

Not sure of your budget, but I believe that StainlessWorks, ARH, and Dyntatech make direct bolt-in systems....

(sorry I couldn't answer any of your questions though...)

Yeah, I know they make systems, but you said it man, I don't have that kind of cheese. Its tough to justify the same amount of money on exhaust as I am spending on ported heads and a cam.

Thanks man.

Plus, I thought about trying to get just the Y pipe from them, but then I thought about alignment issues with the pacesetters. Do you know if I can get away with welding flanges onto collectors that are already coated?

Are you doing this work yourself? If not, a reputable exhaust shop can make short work of mating the headers to the exsisting "Y" pipe for a minimal cost.

Well, I was thinking that I might do it myself. I am not that good at welding stuff in the car, but if I can tack the flanges then remove to finish the welds, I would like to do it myself.

I am also trying to configure the setup in such a manner that it it easy to remove / swap parts / etc... while maintaining good seals without constant tightening of the bolts.

I'm no welder, but I'd think that you could always hit the area to be welded with a die grinder and "oatmeal cookie" if you had to...hopefully someone with some welding skills can chime in on this...

Will I be able to make final connection between the OBX and the stock exhaust?
