Default Silverado Ss Cam Dilema

Well heres the issue, i had bought a cam for my 06 gmc 5.3, (215 218 with 545, 555 lift) and had plans of buying a converter and long tubes. all that was a grand by its self. Well i came across a one owner 03 ss at my local chevy dealer with 70,000 miles so i worked out a deal trading my truck and a thousand bucks, so for that same thousand bucks i got a clean ss (what ive always wanted) but i still have this cam so would it even be worth putting in the 6.0 or is it just way too small? i suppose i could sell it and get something bigger if its not even worth my time putting it in. thanks!

Nicer trade up! Awd? It depends what you want out of the truck, also if you want to stick with the stock converter.

All of the SSS are AWD until 06 I think.

That cam is small for the 6.0, but it would work well with LS6 springs and PR's so you coudl get this doen really cheap. What is the LSA? That thing wont scream up top, but it will probably just make more power everywhere in the curve and drive like stock. If you want to avoid a converter thats a great choice, if youre willing to get a converter I would step it up a little.

For what its worth I love my cam in my crew Denali.

yes its awd, its on a 112 lsa, and right now i say i dont want anything crazy but we all know how that goes...... what im thinking ill do is try and sell this one and the ls6 springs and get a straight 228 on a 114 or something. im thinking the 215 218 is just too small for the lq9

The 228 is pretty big. You will definitely need a converter or it will be a dog off the line.

I agree that this cam is a little small though... I'd get something bigger.

The 03-04 were all AWD, 05 was AWD and 2WD, and 06 and 07 were 2WD.

What converter do you have and have you ever had this thing at the track? I was debating a 799 head swap for some more cheap performance... but then part of me wants to go all out and get them ported if I'm gonna put in the effort to swap.

How did the 80e effect performance? I need to do an 80e swap but I need to fidn one cheap enough to make it worth while first.

I'd go with a slightly larger cam in the 6.0. Something along the lines of a 22x/22x duration. What are your over all goals for the truck? If you plan to go forced induction that will change up what cam specs to go with. But as Ross (tylertxss) said welcome to the SSS family!
