I dont know if anyone else owns a 2000-2004 silverado, but My G/f got a letter in the mail from the GM recall dept. Saying that the steel tailgate cables that supports the full open position may corrode, weaken, and Fracture. So if anyone has one or knows someone with one, tell them to go to a GM dealership and have them replaced.

I got the same letter. I will take mine for that and the clunking noise in the steering shaft.

The letter just tells you about it, then it says they'll send you another notice when to take it in.

 

ILLNALI you got it exactly right. The new ones aren't even out yet. They will sell you new one's now and when the stainless ones come out they well replace them and reinburst you for the ones you paid for.

 

I'm waiting for the dealership to get the go ahead. I didn't exactly have a warm and fuzzy loading a lawnmower into the back of the truck last week. Heck, I wasn't sure it would even fit, but she did with a few inches to spare.
