after 10yrs with this old MellowTone muffler, 8yrs with the 5.3, and 7yrs with tailpipes... i think it's time for a change.
actually, it's more because the guy who made my tailpipes not only got them too close to the shocks so the boots have holes melted in them from the squat caused by my trailer, but the left side has also broken 3 different hangers over the years.
i figure i may as well do a straight-through muffler to replace the starting-to-rust-a-little chambered unit while i'm under there (sadly not using the lifetime replacement rust warranty
)
my initial thoughts are a dynomax 24250 (6" bullet, 3" in/out) into a dynomax 17228 (14" ultra flo, 3" in/2.5" dual out) reusing my dual 3.5"x22" tips for extra deepness in a side-exit configuration on my RCSB.
i ain't crawled under to check measurements yet, but i think it might be possible. my question to folks who've used the 14" single in/dual out ultra flo is how loud it actually is... guessing a little more than mine now? combined with my catless headers & the side-exit, that's why i tacked on the extra bullet upstream.
assuming it fits, what are y'all's thoughts regarding tone, volume, and drone?
now that i'm in my 30s & already do a bit of highway driving with 4.30 gears, i'd rather not hear it hum for hours on end anymore while still sounding manly outside when i get on it.

I would look at maybe a Spintech 6000 Pro Street or a Black Widow 250 muffler. I had a side exit on my 2015, and 2017 Silverado. The drone was not bad and sounded great. My issue was dings and dents from rocks hitting the pipes. Other than that I was very happy with a side exit.

I had my exhaust ran like that for a little while on my SSS with a pair of 14" magnaflow mufflers and honestly it was one of my least favorite exhausts I ever had on that truck. It was loud and sounded mean as hell at WOT but everywhere else it was just plain obnoxious to drive. Just my .02

The overall noise level at cruising speeds and the drone were pretty bad, at least in my case. And IIRC i think i still had factory manifolds and cats at that point as well. I cant imagine how bad it would have been if I had headers and no cats with that setup. Dont get me wrong, I like loud...That truck ended up with long tubes, no cats and a single 4" exhaust with a tiny borla xr1, so it wasnt quiet by any means, but that setup was ran over the exle and dumped at an angle under the bed. My Camaro that Im currently working on will also be running a 4" exhaust with an xr1, but also dumped at the back of the car. Loud has never bothered me, its my ears ringing for hours after taking a lengthy drive that gets me haha.

Are you still running factory cats or are they removed? I've had a TON of SWBs and have run side pipes or dumps on all of them. Drone is almost impossible not to have in a RCSB with the pipes kicked out, unless she's still choked up from the factory. I LOVED my 16 SWB with LT's O/R y and carven R series with dual tips out the side. But, it was insanely droneful. The 2000 lifted SWB I picked up last weekend will have tips run out with cutouts. Pretty sure that's how I'll have it done from now on. I will say, although I'm not a fan of flowmasters. The true dual 10 series on this 5.3 actually don't **** me off lol.

it's got 1 3/4" LTs with an ORY into single 3", so i was thinking the 6000 spintech would probably be a little better if the main point is to minimize cabin noise.
and if it's still bad, it's small enough i could still add the d-max bullet upstream.
my current muffler already drones as bad as a 40 series... and that's with it ran out the back, so based on the reviews i could find, this setup shouldn't be any worse than what i've got now, should it? ... just obviously nowhere near as quiet as the 95% of youtube videos you find.
