Default short headers vs long?

I have a question about headers, short vs long. I picked up a 2010 silverado with 6.2 under the hood, I won't be doing any towing just some time to time hauling of landscape materials. I would like to put some headers and a catback exhaust on it. This will be done just to help that beast under the hood breathe and maybe squeeze some more mpg's out of a tank of gas so my wife doesn't ask why i'm only getting 320 miles to a tank when we take trips. I am leaning towards the Banks headers and exhaust but I can be swayed.

thanks guys,
shooky

I guess it depends on if your truck has to be tested for emisions or if you have an existing warrenty on the truck that you would like to keep. If you don't have to do emissions and your not worried about warrenty I would go with long tubes and a custom exhaust. You'll gain more and have a completely different sound. You will proably need a custom tune to eliminate the rear o2s so they dont' throw engine codes.

you can buy long tube headers and a catted y pipe to keep emissions legal.
Don't see how LT's can void your warranty if you keep the cats on. Shorties would be a waste of $ IMO and very minimal gains.

Even if you put cats back on, it is still technically tampering with an emissions control device unless they are the factory cats in factory locations. If you don't have a visual inspection then it doesn't matter since aftermarket cats will pass a tailpipe test, but it depends on where you live on what you can get away with.

I would do it right... get some American Racing Headers 1 7/8" long tubes and a tune. Keep your stock cat back. On the 6.2 you have the 3.5" exhaust stock and its worth almost nothing to swap it out. Getting the headers alone will help with the sound. For the price of the banks headers and cat back you will get MUCH more out of the ARH system.

The only reason I mentioned warranty was under the assumption that no cats would be put back on. I have a feeling that GM wouldn't like that too much.

HEY BTW........We need pics of this new ride you picked up!!!!
