Short block 6.0 build, need estimates
What can I expect to spen on a short block build up? It would be a basic build(to keep cost down).Stock crank and rods with forged pistons.
I'm guessing here....
Short block-$500.00
Pistons- $600.00
Gaskets-$300.00
Machine work?????????
Misc-fluids and such $150.00
Labor-myself

Did you crack a piston or what?Your prices are about right,I'd figure a cam while the motor's apart and balance the crank assy,if the budget allows.Have you figured out the what caused the problem? How bad is the block damaged and did you damage the heads?

New rings...................................$100 (eBay)
Clevite "H" bearings......................$200
ARP Rod Bolts & Head Bolts............$225
Main studs (optional)....................$200
Cam bearings (if needed)...............$30 installed at local machine shop
GM head & exhaust gaskets...........$80
A cam would be a *really* good idea, unless you are going to use the one from the previous build.

Havent borescoped it yet. My friend that can get one has been off work sick. I'm just kicking around some ideas. I went ahead and did the rod bearings and rod bolts so I could get it back together and drive. It still knocks of course, but still runs good too. I'm still going to go get it tuned Friday too. What the hell, might as well see what it lays down before it blows

It's probably a lifter,a broken piston would have locked up the motor by now and from your description it's louder than the dreaded LS1 piston slap.If it's a lifter you'll have an excuse to change the cam.
