Shocks for a hotchkis drop?
#1
Im putting a hotchkis 2/4 drop on my 2wd 02 silverado and I was wondering what new shocks should I go with. I would like to get a adjustible shock that will work well either on the strip or just in a corner. (Preferably Oil) What size shock would I need front and rear? Does anyone make a shock for this specific application? I would like something that will fit exactly.

I'm planning on going with the same setup, with the sway bars too. Many guys I've talked to on here and other forums that have this drop have gone with Doestch (sp?) tech shocks, or Edelbrock IAS shocks. The Edelbrocks are recommended by Hotchkis, so I've heard, and I guess are meant for the drop. I don't know much about shocks, I think a company called HAL or something makes adjustable shocks...
I'm sure other guys will chime in...

I love my Edelbrock IAS shocks. Of course I have nothing to compare them to but the factory suspesion BUT I have driven enough high performance cars/trucks to know what good handling is.
The ONLY thing I would say to do if you get the edelbrocks and hotchkis springs (which I have) would be to go with the hotchkis sway bar kit. With the sway kit your truck will handle beautifully!
Also dont expect to avoid screetching tires around turns if you stick with the factory tires. I still have the factory generals on my 03 and they make tons of noise when hauling fast around turns. Its really annoying since I know the truck could go so much faster with better tires.

Are the Edelbrock Shocks really nice and stiff ? Im running a 4/6 DJM on my truck , and I am sick of the tires hitting the wheel wells . Right now I have the Toxic shocks ( SUCK ) that came with the lowering kit ..Im also hitting the bed with my pumpkin in the back when I carry pretty much anything in the back on my truck . If I every get my Camaro back up and running , I hope to be able to tow it with this truck . I will get a helper bag setup for that though ..

They are definitely stiff when hitting dips, bumps or driving agressively. When cruising around they ride really nice though. I have hit some serious dips in my truck and the shocks really control/prevent wild and uncontrolable bottoming out.
As far as your tires hitting your wheel wells, I would think the edelbrocks should help your problem but not for sure. A 4/6 inch drop is pretty low.

My truck rides like a fricken Boat , it is really bad . Maybe I will just buy the Edelbrocks and go from there ..

I e-mailed Hal or now QA1 up the other day and they told my they didnt make anything that would fit on my truck but obviously that was wrong. What size shock did you go with? What is the original shock size on the 2wd silverados front and rear? Could I just subtract 2" in the front and 4" in the rear from the stock shocks to get the new hight I need compressed and extended? Any one know
