Question

Now, just to be clear you guys are talking about changing the 1-2 and/or vette servo right? How do you go about changing the overdrive, or whatever it's called, the OTHER servo? I plan on replacing both of mine with billets and installing a transgo after I get my cam and springs in and wanna make sure I have eveything I need to do it and know how. Little help...HMX? You seem to be the resident expert on trannys bro!

LOL Expert! hahaha, well I guess. I do what I can.

'Vette servo is for the 1-2 shift. And 3-2 kickdown. The other servo is right under the cover. Parts go like: cover, OD servo, washer, spring, outer part of the 'Vette servo, then the inner part, and I think another spring. I think there's a few more bits like E-clips, more washers, and that piston pin too.

To replace the OD one, just pop the cover, remove the OD servo, install billet one, reinstall cover.

They both go in the same hole just stack them in there.

BUT... you get an extra spring with the OD servo. You can't get it all in there with the billet intermediate servo so just toss it.

Hope that helps...

Ughh ... I'm offended .. I get no credit for the long *** right up I did! Bah ... on well, life goes on! jokin BTW ..

Here is a scan of the manual I just got today. It has a nice diagram of the servo assembly.

http://bettie.homeip.net/atvpics/tru...o_assembly.jpg
Dial-up beware ... the picture is freaking HUGE!

17 and 20 are the intermediate servo. They actually control band apply on the 1-2 shift (band is applied when it shifts into 2nd. Corvette and billet are just different types of servo. They have a larger fluid apply area. The recessed part of the servo is where the apply area is. Item 15 in the picture is a cover that on the servo. It has to be taken off to remove and replace that spring on the new servo.

Item 25 and 28 is the overdrive servo. Again ... the corvette and billet servo are just different styles with more holding capacity (bigger fluid apply area) then the stock ones. From stuff I've read I would tend to think the 'corvette' servo is just a coined name, prolly from people putting them in their corvette to start with or something and not actually the part that is in the vette. Don't hold me to that last little bit though.

I'm hoping that's the case with this ... hopefully reading through the manual as much as I have and looking at the select few parts I have sitting on my floor it will all come together.

I heard the "corvette servo" is the actual servo used in F-bodies and Vettes?

BTW: Thanks for the ton of information, Flyer - I was a little fuzzy about this job up until now.

The more you read about the trannies they make sense. They ARE complicated ****** for sure. But hopefully with a few ways stuff is described it will become clearer.

I like to explain stuff simple enough for my brother to understand it.
