Default Service Engine Soon

So I was on my way to work last night, and about half way there the service light came on, I was like "DAMN IT!". I just wanted to get out of work early to see whats up wit my baby. I went to Autozone and the guy said the code it came out was P404. I really wasnt paying attention to the guy and he was saying something about a valve or something, all I heard was it is nothing major. I looked up the code, theres no P404, or did I hear wrong, theres a P0404(Exhaust gas recirculation cicuit, rang or performance problem). Has anyone delt with this before? Quick fixes, anything.

More than likely the egr motor isn't working up to par to meet the tests.

if you don't have access to tuning capabilities to remove the egr...don't buy any parts for it. Go into the sales area and post a WTB or BEG (hehehe) for somebody's egr system for a 99. Alot of people delete them and are more than willing to give them away if you pay postage.

Aight thanks, I'd rather get a new part, but is this something that should be replaced, or can I still ride arounf for a while?

the pcm does make small timing adjustments for egr but nothing of any worries, it's no where in the power enrichments area...I'd drive around with it. The only problem with driving around with the ses light on is...you can't see other codes pop up.

you should really just delete it if you have someone to tune for it... and take off the egr.. it recirculates exhaust into the intake for emissions purposes.. and with it deleted and removed properly you will still pass emissions

post a wtb and get a used egr valve. someone will probably give you one for shipping. it dosent hurt to drive it with the egr messed up.

Wait your talking about if something else messes up that causes the SES to come on and wont come up with the code until my first problem(P0404) is fixed right? Or what do ya mean?

Re read all the post that TG02Z71 posted in post #2. Don't think there is a way of fixing the valve. I think your best bet would be getting another egr valve and tossing the one on your truck or just deleting the egr.
