on the pump assembly what is the sending unit?

the piece with the float or top piece where the fuel lines connect?

might be a dumb ? but need the answer thanks in advance, kevin

i got one for free lol and tore it apart tonight with storm5.3's help now just have to get the part on the truck.

i recieved a used fuel pump assembly and tore the sending unit down last night, i will install it friday or sat.
