Default Sealing K&N FIPK air box?

I know on the FIPK the top of the box is sealed with the hood but what about the bottom? Could additional power be made if the box was sealed on all sides and still have my ram air tube sealed with the box. So once the air comes from the ram air tube into the box it has nowhere to escape except going through the filter. right?

Mine doesnt even seal on the hood well. I have been pondering this same idea myself. Now that it is warming up a bit, I am going to try and fab up a plate for the top and bottom so it will only draw air in from the front.

Sounds like a good idea. Keeping the heat out is good. For the ram air you need a pretty good seal (since you're trying to build some pressure).
Good luck, and post some pics when you're done.

the pressure has to release somewhere, and your engine can only take in so much air unless you are forcing it in. think of it as trying to fill a water bottle that is already full.

I took a clear peice of poly carbonite so it would fit on the top of the airbox resting on the fender and radiator support. I used the bump stop bolt and fender bolt along with the small screws to hold it down,. I had to use the poly because it was the only clear plastic like material that wouldn't crack when bent. Any glass shop should stock it. Use a thin piece of poster board as a template.

I had to do this because a HD hood on a 1/2 ton doesn't seal.

I didn't notice any increase in power but I don't have any way to verify but the track.

I don't know if you can see it on my cardomain
