Default SDPC 5.3 Build

Like any older motor, things are going to happen, parts are going to wear out, and gaskets are going to fail. Such is the case with one particular Crew Cab Sillverado we have here at the shop. The tired 160,000 mile 5.3L gave up a head gasket, and we decided we would like to take this as an opportunity to increase performance without affecting drive-ability and trying to keep a premium on fuel mileage --- sometimes easier said than done when you have a lead-foot that likes the feel of increased power!

Test Truck is a 2004 Crew Cab w/ a 5.3L, 4L60e, and G80 equipped 3.42 geared 10 bolt.

We will be using the GMPP LS327 Short Block for this build.

Replacing the stock heads with CNC ported SDPC 62cc 5.3L sporting 2.00/1.55 LS1 Valves, LS6 Springs, and 220cc intake ports. (SD8926C)

The LS327 utilizes the 2001 F-Body LS1 camshaft. However, we will be replacing that w/ a SDPC HT1 Hot Truck Camshaft which specs out @ 214/218 .559/.562 on a 111 LSA.

We will be using a a GMPP CAI to bring in cooler air and a set of Pacesetter LTs & Y-Pipe to scavenge exhaust out to a pre-existing Flowmaster muffler which will be swapped out for a Magnaflow cat-back in the future.

The goal is simple: Increased HP & TQ over stock, great drivability, and some tire smokin' torque; A great upgrade to increase torque for pulling boats, trailers, or car haulers; More power for Test'N'Tune Night at the local dragstrip; Or a cost effective option to replace tired engines.

The swap is being done this weekend and dyno numbers/track times should be up soon!

Keep tuned to see what the results will be!!

sounds pretty cool! Were you able to dyno the previous 5.3 before it died?

Unfortunately I did not. There will for sure be an after dyno. I just hate to dyno a truck with a blown head gasket and then claim it picked this much hp/tq, knowing it was down on power to begin with. I will be getting 1/8th mile track times this Friday however. Just for kicks tho, nothing that will be used as a comparison.

I think that Cam will work pretty good with the 111lsa. I've been using a similar Isky for apps like that, and it pulls hard.
