Default screen delete on MAF

I'm getting a CAI soon and i wanted to go ahead and descreen the MAF while I had it off. Do I just knock it out or what? Do I have to get a tune so the check engine light doesn't come on? Also what is a TB bypass? Thanks!

Don't knock it out unless you can tune for it...

Don't touch it. Leave in there.

I took mine out and noticed a difference. I just used a screwdriver kinda like can opener.

if you take a closer look you will see a ring that snaps in to hold the screen in place.
remove the ring and the screen just falls out.
if your truck starts to run odd or a little different just pop the screen back in and snap the ring back in to place.

I pulled mine out and had it tuned for it, there's no big SOTP difference but it's a free and allows more air to enter at a greater velocity. The TB bypass is just re-routing a coolant line away from the throttle body to keep a cooler intake charge. If you live in a cold climate and it's a daily driver I don't recommend it. But warm climate drivers have no loss-> no need to have warm starting temps.

You can remove it. Will not cause a light to show up. Tune for it??? LOL.
It made no difference on mine. Took it out and it ran the same with or without it.
It's a "no" gainer free mod on most N/A engines.

The screen helps to straighten out the air so that the MAF can get more accurate readings...removing it is hit or miss. Most of what I've heard about it has been negative, such as wierd MAF readings, lean conditions, knock retard, etc. I'd leave it alone.

I descreened mine and ran it for over a year. i wasn't pulling alot of air threw it. I put the 408 in and it was giving false readings. Had a new one with screen put in and back to normal.

Removing the MAF screen will show the PCM different MAF voltage because it directly effects the MAF sampling rate, which then effects the load tables. You HAVE to tune this modification. SOP feel may tell you the vehicle runs the same with or without it, but I'll bet my life's savings that scanned data plots and a few dyno runs will tell a whole different story (it has on EVERY descreend MAF car I've ever tuned).
