Question SC sound From non SC truck????

ok, coming home from a long drive tonight i noticed a supercharger sound coming from my truck, only problem is, i don't have one, and it seems to originate from underneath the truck and where the bed meets the cab. haven't had time nor daylight to investigate this new found noise, does anyone have a clue what it could be? only problem with truck now is the fuel gauge and i do know the culprit. just to lazy to fix it. could this sound be the fuel pump. i am do for a fuel filter change. but before my last change with 60K on factory filter, it never made this noise... also, the noise stays constant no matter the rpm's.

Does the pitch of the noise change with an increase in RPM?? Maybe a small exhaust leak?

It may be gears in rear end.Have someone drive your truck while you ride in the bed and listen.

the sound doesn't change with rpm increase. and also the sound is present when the truck is sitting still as well as while in motion. i am hoping it is just a small exhaust leak like mentioned. gonna climb under it today and hack my exhaust pipes off and hopefully i'll find a leak that can be repaired.

sounds like a fuel pump to me, the location is about where the pump sits.

how much gas do you have, i think they get a little louder when you are low on gas.

to see if it is the pump turn the truck key on but dont start it, the pump will run for a few seconds and then shut off. you can stand outside your truck and just reach in the window to turn the key on.

i'll try that. the fuel level is at about 3/4 of a tank right now. but to me that is what it sounds like also. how much do those run if mine is bad? and is it worth stepping up to a performance pump?

On my 2000, I have sort of the same thing...the fuel pump is loud as hell one day but then it is peaceful and quiet the next, even with a full tank . I've only got 48k on mine, but the FP has been doing this for the past 9-12 months. I figure as long as I have a cell phone and AAA, I will take the chance that it might crap out on me. Who knows, it may last another 5 years as well. I think the OEM FP is just loud by nature and over time it just gets louder. That is the experience I had with all 4 of my F-bodies...an 86, 2 95s and a 99. HTH.
