SC Belt slipping? Maybe?
#1
I know some of you said to wait for the new pcm (still using an automatic pcm) but I cannot help but think my belt is slipping. This is why:
1. Excessive dust on tensioner (caked on about 1/4 inch by pulley)
2. Truck is surging when in boost MOST of time (even at part throttle, more so even at part throttle)
3. A pulley (not sure which one) is squeeking in the morning.
4. Put the stock 3.4 pulley on the blower and it got better, truck even seemed to pull just as hard, if not better.
5. when it is surging hard I boost can fall as low as 5 lbs.
BUT, this started after I did the auto to manual swap. The auto was throwing slipping codes and making bad noises. I also complained to allen a couple times that it always felt like the truck would get sluggish often times. This started when I changed from the 3.0 to the 2.75 pulley.
I am wondering if the belt has been slipping for a while, and the torque converter in the auto was soaking up the surging while the manual just has the springs in the clutch disk.
Maybe I am off base here, but it makes sense to me. I switched back to the 2.75 pulley and a gatorback belt tonight, and it seems even worse now.
Think I have a weak tensioner? If so, where do I get one? It came with the radix and I can't find a number on it.

Dunno about any cog or 8 rib setup...

Check the compression of the motor and a leak down check. Surging under boost is a sign of a broken ring or piston. Mine and several others had the same problem. They all idled smooth. Also check for oil in the intake and throttle body.

You very well could have a slipping belt though .. You've gone down almost a full inch in pulley size. You might could stand a little tighter belt with the smaller pulleys.

I'm still running the same size belt. Maybe I should have gotten a smaller gatorback, but as long as the tensioner has play, wouldn't you think it be ok? Or I wonder if the tensioner is bouncing causing the surging? I cannot always see it on the guage though. Crap, I dunno... We'll see once allen gets me my ecu...
