Default Running the Valves after cam install?

Do you have to run the valves after installing a cam and springs?

I was under the impression that you did because you were changing springs. Any other opinions anyone?

The stock rockers are non adjustable. Put some loctite on the bolts, and torque them to (I THINK) 22ft lbs. What I did, is turn the engine over till both valves are on the base of the cam, (just like adjusting them to a certain clearance), then tighten those 2 bolts, then move to the next. It's not really necessary, but you're not torquing em down against spring pressure. Double check my torque numbers, though, as it's been awhile since I did mine.

The purpose of running in the cam is to get an even wear pattern between the cam and flat tappet lifters. If you have a GENIII engine (99+ NBS), you have roller lifters and there's no need to worry. I would however get a few heat cycles into the valve springs before romping on it, or you could end up with a broken spring. I don't romp on a cold engine in general.
