Rotor and break life? Please help!
#1
On average how long do these last on our trucks? Mine is a stock 2003 Silverado Reg cab 5.3? I have heard that LS1 Camaros have a problem with there rotors warping, do the trucks have the same problem and what can caues this? My 2002 Camaro Z28 has 19,000 miles on it and I can just start to feel the breaks plusing from warped rotors. What causes this? My wife drives the Z28 and is not hard on it at all. Thanks for the help!

there's some guys with stock pads on trucks with over 80k miles, i have 70k on mine with tons of abuse and they're workin fine.....i have no issues with my rotors either at 70k, but am looking to upgrade for a few reasons, none having to do with the stock part wearing out, or breakin. as far as warping the rotors, when i had my 95 jeep the rotors warped on it due to high heat, we were driving up a mtn. and then back down going skiing in colorado and the rotors warped on the trip....

102k on a 99 Silverado EC 4x4. Brake rotors or pads never been off. I think its going to wear the rotors out before the pads. Brake pulsation is caused part by excessive lateral runout. This means that the hub and rotor are not perfectly parallel with each other. If you want to reduce the chance of rotors warping, clean the hub and rotor, then attach a magnetic base dial indicator to the car and measure runout as you turn the rotor. Then spin the rotor on the wheel studs until its with specs. I think its .02".

60K on the 1999. just changed the rear rotors and pads. for some reason they tend to go before the front ones. i do alot of offroading. mud and salt get in the way and cause the premature wear. i think i have more of a caliper problem. mud gets in the piston and causes the wear. front are still original. might change soon. it all depends on the type of driving you do. some guys get over 100K. probably down south though. up north it is quicker i am guessing

Rotors also can be warped from being incorrectly or over torqued
Meaning - if you have have your wheels/tires rotated and the monkey hit the lugs with an impact set to stun - overtorque can distort the rotor
and cause warpage.
