Default replace crank seal tips? tricks?

my crank pulley on my truck is leaking (04 rcsb 4.8 2wd) so i have to replace it i've been true it a few times but not with a automatic trans on my cars witch have all been manual transmissions or on a engine stand

so whats the easiest way to keep the crank in place while tightening or loosening the crank bolt?

I stick a large flat blade screw driver into the hole below the flex plate and jam the flex plate in place. basically stuff the screw driver between the flex plate and converter and turn the motor until it all binds up.

there is a tool for the "right" way to do the job. It bolts in where the starter sits to lock the flex plate in place.

TXsilverado your pulling the inspection cover and sticking the screwdriver in there?

yeah i seen that tool but really was hoping i didn't have to pull the starter ( I hate pulling starters) plus an extra $30 for a tool that looks like it was made from scraps lol

yes, stick a solid screwdriver or small pry bar between the flex plate and converter (pretty far in there). turn the crank counter clock wise until the feet on the converter bind up with the inspection hole. works like a charm.

reverse steps for tightening the crank bolt.
