Removing the PS pulley
#1
I've been having some trouble removing the power steering pump pulley on my 2000 silverado. I'm assuming that it's a force fit, but I have a gear puller on it, and all it's doing is gouging the back of the pulley...not coming off. There is a hex head inside the middle, but I don't think that it is holding the pulley on.
Has anyone done this before? How the hell do you get it off?

i tried to get the pulley off of an 92 suburban once. I broke one puller and bent the hell outta the pulley. A new one wasn't that expensive so I just put a new one on too. I don't know about the hex head though.

There is a puller made for the pump and pulley. Don't use a three jaw or anything else but the right puller. You will ruin the pulley/pump, and possibly kill yourself or the radiator when the puller brakes. lol
I bought a MAC puller cost about 80 bucks works great, you will need one to re-install the pulley anyway. I'm sure you can find a cheaper one at an auto parts store.
The puller has two small jaws that fit inside a cylinder that keeps the jaws engaged in the pulley grove. And a threaded shaft to pull the pulley. There is thread instead the pump shaft that the puller kit uses to pull the pulley back on when reinstalling.
If you are located near me vortec 7 I'll let you use mine.

Mine is in my tool box at work. I'll see if I can't find one on the web.
