Default Reg or Ex-Cab???

Well I'm goin truck shoping Thursday, hopeing to find a GMC or Chevy reg cab swb 5.3 2000 model. I test drove a ex-cab but it seems like its too long... what do you like about a reg cab over a excab? and vise-versa?
i see it as i dont take a lot of poeple with me, and its lighter, and looks pretty good in 2wd.

btw anyone in the DFW area let me know of some good Chevy dealerships to look at. Or GMC.
Its kind of hard to find a GMC on autotrader with a 5.3, or even a Chevy.

In my case I have the extended cab for family reasons. If I were to build an all out race truck, I would get the reg cab. I have also NEVER been comfortable with the window in reg cab truck right behind my head. Plus you can't beat the storage of the reg cab and the ocassional extra friend or two. What I like best about my truck(right Now) is being able to punch it at 20 mph and lay 50ft of rubber down Of course that's with my mods.

Personally, i'd never buy a regular cab truck unless it was just for a work truck. I like being able to adjust the seat back if I wish, be able to haul people or junk with me inside the cab (ever go on a trip and have your stuff get rained on in the bed?). The rear seats in these GM trucks are pretty roomy for an extended cab, I like that alot. The 4 doors also make it easy to get in and out of.

If you want to buy a vehicle based on performance alone, I sure wouldn't pick a truck in the first place. Its just nice that we can make these GM trucks quicker with simple modifications, but there is no comparison to an LS1 F-body with the same modifications.

Look up the exact vehicle you want on GMC.com or CHEVROLET.com then you will spend less time looking around. Look up invoice prices online and then take the $2002 off that price. This will give you a price to shoot for. Don't let the salesman start the price negotiations from the sticker price.

For GMC, go with Ewing on 635 and Jupiter.

EWING BUICK PONTIAC GMC - DALLAS
11438 LBJ FREEWAY
DALLAS, TX 75238

They offered me a great deal in December, I just wasn't ready to buy yet.

For Chevy look at Steakley:

STEAKLEY CHEVROLET, INC.
6411 E NORTHWEST HWY
DALLAS, TX 75231-8000
Phone: (214) 363-8341

I bought my Silverado form Steakley.

Just depends on your tastes and what you plan to use the truck for. Personally, I like the looks of the standard cab better. That being said, I would have rather had an extended cab for the extra room and utility. Only one problem....it wouldn't fit in my garage. So I had to go with the standard cab. As long as you don't carry more than one passenger on a regular basis, its not too bad. Mine has a hard tonneau on the back so I can use the bed to put stuff in (the stuff that those with extended cabs just throw in the back seat). It would be nice to be able to let the seat back more than I can in the std. cab though. And I wish I had the back seat to hide some nice subs under.

Nine Ball is right about one thing -- a truck is no substitute for a sports car.

Since it sounds like you are looking for a used one, go to http://www.getauto.com/
It's a pretty good site, usually shows a pic of the truck & gives the major details. For example, I found this one in Lewisville in a few minutes:

neil, i've seen that one on autotrader, if only it didnt have the pewter bottom i would go look at it.
I went to several places yesterday, Classic Chevrolet, Van Chevy, and plent of others, Ill have to check out Ewing, also I need to go by Graff. Yesterday all I could find was a 99 gmc with 89k miles and the rest either sport side or 4.8s...
Nineball I would get a fbod, but im a few weeks away from being 17, and as you can imagine insurance companies dont want to insure me. Only one or two places will (with a clean record even) and thats 4970 for six months. So I can't afford that. I'll probably have to get an extended cab since I can't find a good used 5.3 reg cab. I would like to buy new, but working at Quizno's at $6/hr throwing subs together with 20hrs a week isnt going to get me far with a sticker around 25k. What are the main diffs in 1/4 mile times on an ex cab? How much more to they weigh? I think it would like one more now that i think about it, i dont like my seat straight up, and the room might be nice. is it possible to find a 99 or 2k excab under 17 thats in pretty good shape? I would like the 2k since it has the 4th door. sorry for a long post. Thanks for the advice on where too look also.

Dude, strip the side moldings off & get some black Krylon spray paint to cover the pewter. Nobody will ever know the difference.

Wow! 5 g's for 6 months of insurance on a F-body?!?!?
I think I would start shopping for a bicycle.
