Default Reducing Interior Cab noise at Highway speed

I currently have a 2006 GMC crew cab with the 5.3 L and a 16 in magnaflow dumped right at the muffler. it was great for the first two year but lately while traveling the interior noise is so loud in the back seat my wife is telling me to remove the muffler.

so my question is will running the exhaust out the back or sides reduce the cab noise?

I really like the tone but after riding in the back with my Two kids (3 year old and 3 month old) I will have to agree it is way to loud back there for them and my wife.

Thanks,

Rip

Yes running it ou the back will quit the interior noise but only if it fully exits from under the bed, stock style if you will. Mines a 22" magnaflow dumped before axle and its loud so I plan on letting it exit out the back.

You could try some sound deadening on the back wall and floor of the cab before you give up on the muffler completely. I have quite a bit of sound deadening in my truck and you can definetly tell a difference from a stock truck.

Yes, running the exhaust out the side or out the back will help a lot, out the back more so. A bigger muffler will help too obviously.

you also are dealing with the cabin vents that are on back of cab just infront of bed. i used sound deadening and completely covered those vents. it helped alot.

Thanks everyone,

and for anyone else that might be wondering,

YES it will quiet down the interior noise a lot. so much I feel my truck got neutered today after having the pipes ran out the back.
