Question recommended fuel grade for SS?

Does GM recommend premium (93 octane here in TX) for the Silverado SS? Or can it be safely run on 87 octane?

On F-bodies, GM recommends premium, on my previous GMC 87 octane was fine.

Detination with low octane, and the higher compression of a SS. If your on a road trip cruising, and not towing cheaper would be ok. But under strain, at least 91.

The stock timing is pretty tame. I've never tried it but you should be able to run regular as long as your not jumping on it. Try a half tank of 87 and if it rattles add some 92

i have tried 87. not on purpose. my dad thought he would be nice and fill it up for me. any way i had some light valve chatter that was cured with some nos octane booster. 89 would be the lowest i would try

With the stock timing table, you could run 87 without issues. I've used it and had no problems. I do run 93 most of the time, but thats because I have my timing pumped up and have nitrous installed. I don't see detonation being an issue unless you are running it hard or doing heavy towing. If thats the case, bump it up to 89 octane.

Also, I can fill up with almost any grade gasoline from a rural station that carries unoxygenated fuel, and my truck runs better then 93 big city gas.

Oh yeah, there isn't any sticker or warning saying that premium fuel is required or needed.

On my 2003SS there is a sticker on the fuel door that says "USE Premium Fuel Only"

with the price of gas lately, and it getting higher, I don't want to get stuck in a truck that requires premium fuel. Just another reason to get a diesel I suppose. Maybe I'll get an HD and just make it look like an SS
