Rebuild a used 6.0L?
I'm trying to get my hands on a 6.0L as we speak. The motor is a "slapper" and is being replaced by GM for a new motor. My plans are:
Comp Cams 212/218 cam w/ 918 springs
Converter
Gears/posi
Would it be wise to go ahead and replace the pistons w/ Escalade units and clean up the cylinder walls while the motor is out of the truck? Any other thoughts?
Thanks!

I would go and freshen it anyway. Put some better pistons in it and a set of arp bolts throgh it. Maybe a bit bigger cam. You can get away with a bigger cam with bigger cubes.

I like the comp 212/218 for a 6L. I have one waiting for a 6.0 build up.
If you are going to install new pistons, think about getting it overbored and get some forged pistons. Look in the internal engine section. There is a topic on .030 overboring a 6.0.

I priced out a list at thunderracing.com with Lunati conn rods, Diamond pistons and Comp Cams cam and valvesprings...I actually thought that it would be more expensive than it was:
Cam and springs: $560
Gaskets/ARP fasteners: $960
Lunati Conn Rods: $700
Diamond forged slugs: $570
TOTAL: $2800
That way, I could spray it and not blow anything but the tranny! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
