Rear End Cover Torque Specs??
#1
My rear-end cover has sprung a leak. Is there a torque requirement for the rear-end cover bolts?
Would also love to hear everyone's "tricks" to seal this problem area. I have heard people who simple replace the gasket and people who use RTV red gasket maker. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I remeber the cover bolts are like 17ft/lbs or so but really with a 10 bolt cover having the same torque on all bolts is very important and tightend in a stagerd pattern. But paper gasket they use is crap and yeah RTV will probley work well, I use Toyota FIPG (formed in place gasket) and in my opinion is the best RTV and I have never had a problem. You can ask for it by name at a toyota parts store pronounced "FI-PIG." Also I like to put some RTV around each bolt hole and a dab on the bolts. And don't put on too much RTV just a nice .060" bead is adequate.

Thanks for the help guys.
As for the LS1howto site, I tried looking there earlier but I couldn't find anything for the rear-end cover. What name is it under?

Ok Guys -
Toyota has two versions of their FIPG, a BLACK one for oil pans and cam covers & a RED one for transmission pans. Which one are you guys most familiar with? Is red for hotter temps and black for lower temps? I would think for a rear end cover, the hotter the better.
Thanks
