Default rear end broke

When you break the g80, will it lock at all? Or, do you just have a peg leg? Mine is screwed, and I am just guessing what is wrong with it before I open it up. I can still spin both tires, but it is making a bad clunking noise. Also, when I turn to the right it makes the noise over and over until I am going straight.

Mine make a loud clunking noise.Sounds like it's time for a Auburn Pro or an Eaton posi.

If I heard those noises, I would stop driving the truck and change the unit ASAP. I heard these same noises, exept when mine broke under normal driving conditions, it took out the rear end gears abd bearing. A $500 job turned into a $1200 job. Do it before its too late, trust me.

I drove it home and parked it last Wed. Why would it cost 1200? I can get an Eaton, gears and Master rebuild kit for 540.00.

Eaton, Master Rebiuld Kit, Axle Bearings, and OEM Gears were 725 plus the labor. If you do it yourself, I guess you would be able to do it for the cost of the parts. I don't feel comfortable adjusting the mesh between the gears.

I could have spent $540 as well. I bought OEM gears which were like 125 more I believe and another $75-100 for axle bearings. My rear end had a lot of metal in it and was afraid the metal went into the bearings. OEM geras are less prone to whining and making noise.
