Question Radix+Heads+Springs

buddy of mine told me he had a set of LS1Heads and LS6 Springs if i wanted them, for what sounds like a badass price...$200. How well will these tie in with me new Radix? I don't know much about internals, but wont the heads lower the compression and allow me to safely run higher boost? and if i do get them, should I have them installed the same time as the blower or will it be that big of a deal to do it separate? much info appreciated!

You are right on ... lower compression lets you run more boost without detonation. If I remember right ... those heads flow a little better than the stock 5.3 heads as well. I know they have bigger valves, so that should help as well.

Looking at your current mod list, if you aren't going to get it custom tuned, you should get rid of that Granatelli MAF. It will more than likely cause you to run a little leaner than a blown motor should run.

What is the stock compression on a LS1? If those heads have a larger combustion chamber vs the 5.3L, then it will decrease your CR.

HUH???

If you increase combustion chamber size you will lower CR not raise it.

Right.

Like what I have. My truck comes with 10:1CR stock. The stock combustion chamber size is 71cc. I had my heads ported to 77cc, which increased my volume, and now I am at about a 9.6:1CR.

This is why you hear guys talking about gasket thickness so much. Greater compressed thickness, lower CR.

LOL

I understand ya mate but you said that if the LS1 heads have a larger combustion chamber than the 5.3L heads then you'll increase your CR hahaha

Yes LS1 heads in place of the 5.3 will drop compression, good for boost. I'd do it.

Since you have to have the intake off to do a head swap...I'd go ahead and swap the heads then. ALSO I'd do a cam since it will all be apart anyway. The Z06 cam +4* is a decent FI grind for the money.
